How long has your family been a part of Freedom School?
We have been a part of Freedom School since 2021, when Joshua completed kindergarten. Freedom School was his first in-person interaction with others after the pandemic.
Why do you feel it is important for your scholar to participate in summer learning?
During the summer, due to our busy lives and schedules, children, especially those facing disadvantages, often experience learning loss. We may not have the time or resources to dedicate to them, and they can fall behind their peers before the next school year begins.
How has Freedom School impacted your scholar? Your family?
Since Joshua started at Freedom School, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in his confidence and his love for books. He now enjoys reading for fun. This year is particularly special because Ellie Rose is experiencing her first year too. She’s also showing more confidence and a stronger desire to learn and read. I’m thrilled that my kids have a safe, enjoyable, and supportive place to spend their summers, instead of wasting time on TV or electronic devices. They eagerly look forward to going each day, learning, and experiencing new things. As a family, we eagerly anticipate each summer and continuing to be a part of the Freedom School community. Freedom School has welcomed us with empathy, making us feel like part of a growing, inclusive family.
How does Freedom School make a difference?
Freedom School makes a difference by showing children that they can achieve anything they set their minds to through hard work. They learn that they can make a positive impact in their homes, communities, and even the world. They understand their importance, feel loved, and recognize their worth. Together, they learn that unity makes us stronger.
