Scholar Application Information

Freedom School Partners is a six week, summer reading program that serves scholars in Charlotte, NC. Freedom School encourages a love of reading and learning through a culturally diverse curriculum.

The Integrated Reading Curriculum affirms our scholars with engaging literature and exposure to the broader community. We hire college-aged students to teach and mentor our scholars in classrooms with a 1:10 teacher to student ratio. During the six weeks, we encourage families of our scholars to engage in their child’s learning through family engagement nights and volunteer opportunities through out the summer.

Priority applications for returning scholars will be accepted beginning in January. All new scholar candidate applications will be accepted beginning in February. We serve children who are currently in Kindergarten through 8th grade at multiple locations around Charlotte. Each one of our Freedom School sites serves a particular school or community area. If your child attends one of the schools or lives in one of the communities that we serve, they may be eligible to apply to attend Freedom School.

Priority registration for Freedom School Partners located in Charlotte, 2024 for eligible returning families/scholars will be January 22nd – February 19th. All eligible returning families will receive official registration instructions through email. Applications received after February 19th will be waitlisted for review until May to determine availability.

New Scholar Registration (for focus schools) will be February 20th – May 3rd. The waitlist will be reviewed in May to approve applications from scholars who do not attend our focus schools or applied after the deadline.
